Riceland Attends USA Rice Fly-In; USDA Announces Plans for its New Rice Production Program

Riceland’s Chief of Staff and Vice President of Government Affairs Kevin McGilton, along with Riceland farmer members and Riceland team members, are in Washington D.C. for USA Rice’s DC fly-in this week to advocate for an improved farm bill safety net and get an update on trade issues.

Today USDA Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced in a press release the details of the new Rice Production ad hoc assistance program. Farmers are encouraged to go to their local FSA office and fill out the Adjust Gross Income form number 510 to start the process for the payment. Senator John Boozman spoke to the group and gave the latest from the Senate Ag Committee and an update on the ad hoc assistance. USA Rice Federation awarded Carley Esser from Senator Boozman’s staff with the Outstanding Staffer Award. Riceland farmer member David Petter spoke with Senator Boozman, and Adam Shea, Riceland’s senior director of sustainability, got an update from Dr. John Newton from Boozman’s staff.
