News & Views: Government Affairs Update
USDA has announced $12 billion in Farmer Bridge Assistance, including direct payments to producers of key commodities. While the aid won’t fully cover recent losses, it provides timely support as farmers navigate current challenges and await stronger safety net programs later in 2026.

The USDA recently announced $12 billion in aid through the Farmer Bridge Assistance Program, including $11 billion in direct, one-time payments to producers of commodities such as rice, soybeans, corn, and cotton.
This assistance, intended to be distributed by February 28, 2026, is designed to serve as a temporary bridge until enhanced farm safety net programs take effect later in 2026. While this funding will not fully offset losses for farmers in our area, it is a meaningful and appreciated step toward helping them weather current challenges as longer-term support is put in place.
