Farmer-members started our planting season earlier this year than in previous years. Most of the rice crop was planted before the spring rains, and the beans were not far behind. The majority of our members also had a good run on bean planting. Early planting means early harvest. This harvest is one of the earliest harvests on record.
At the time of writing this article, our farmer members had harvested a majority of the rice crop, and several had harvested all their rice before the tropical storm moved through Arkansas and rained for five days.
The local driers stayed open later than normal to help our members get the crop under cover before the storm. We hope this helped you finish most of your rice harvest. The staff at Riceland hopes the rest of your harvest was safe and bountiful!
