Jonathan Bottoms

Fourth-generation farmer Jonathan Bottom grew up watching his dad and grandfather put hard work into each crop to prolong the legacy of the Bottoms family farm.

“Farming has always been special to me.”

Fourth-generation farmer and Riceland member Jonathan Bottoms grew up watching his dad and his grandfather put hard work into each crop to prolong the legacy of the Bottoms Family Farm. Today, Jonathan follows in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, working hard for the next Bottoms generation.

“They built their operation on hard work. I try to continue that.”

Having worked with his father on and off the farm, Jonathan had a special place in his heart for farming. As a result, he longed to have his own operation one day. That day came after he graduated from high school and accepted an offer from his dad to farm 40 acres, knowing that starting would be tough. Understanding the challenges ahead, Jonathan began farming. Today, Jonathan and his wife Sara farm 4,500 acres of rice, corn, and soybeans. They have been farming together in Desha County for 14 years.

With the future in mind, Jonathan sees water conservation as a driver of change throughout modern agriculture. That’s why he proactively implements conservation practices on the farm and looks for new ways to increase farm sustainability for the upcoming generations.

Reflecting on consumer interest in farmers and food sources, Jonathan affirms the safety of the products that farmers grow. Regulations do preserve food safety, but farm families grow safe and sustainable food to have on their very own tables.

“Everything we do is safe. Our own families eat this product. Our own families walk these fields.”

At Riceland, we proudly provide services to members like Jonathan to help them sustainably feed the world.

To the Bottoms family, thank you for being our members.
