Jessica Harrison, a commodity operations bookkeeper, has been part of Riceland Foods for just over a year—but in that time, she has already made a lasting impact. Along with her bookkeeping responsibilities, she is learning to work the scales and ship clean rice, expanding her skills and knowledge every day.

Jessica’s journey to Riceland began when another employee encouraged her to apply. At first, she was hesitant to change careers, but after interviewing and accepting the job, she quickly realized how much she enjoyed the atmosphere. “I have a good team that I get to work with,” she says. The support of her coworkers made all the difference. “It is a lovely place to work. My coworkers help me learn and do not tear me down when I make a mistake—which is important.”

No two days are ever the same for Jessica, and that’s exactly what she loves. Whether she’s handling reports, working the scale, or helping with shipments, every day brings new opportunities to learn. “You’re never too old to learn,” she says. The scale, in particular, is one of her favorite parts of the job because of the people she meets. “The regulars become like family,” Jessica explains, adding that the relationships she’s built with farmers and coworkers make the work even more meaningful.

When asked what growing good at Riceland means to her, Jessica immediately points to her team. She appreciates how her coworkers encourage her, show her the ropes, and build her up along the way. “The support here is amazing,” she says. For Jessica, mistakes are simply opportunities to learn, and she’s proud to work in an environment where growth is celebrated. “I am never bored,” she adds with a smile.

Being nominated for a Grow Good Award is an honor Jessica takes to heart. “I was pretty stoked to have been nominated,” she says. “I’ve been striving to get this award all year, and I am excited to have been named a finalist.” For her, the recognition is proof that her efforts are noticed. “I am thankful that my coworkers see that I am trying my best in everything I am doing. I couldn’t do it without them.”

Jessica is especially grateful for the team that helped her find her footing so quickly. “My coworkers are amazing. Each one has a different personality, and I fit in so well here,” she says. The relationships she’s built—and the encouragement she receives—make her proud to come to work every day.
