Geraldine Johnson, a first-shift Quality Assurance supervisor, has been part of the Riceland family for 26 years. She began her career in 1994 as a part-time employee before moving into a full-time packing role in 1996. From there, she advanced to packing operator, and in 2016 she transitioned into Quality Assurance, where she has served for the past nine years.
Geraldine’s decision to join Riceland was shaped by family responsibility. After losing her parents, she stepped in to care for her younger siblings and needed steady, reliable work. “Riceland was the best choice for work in the area,” she recalls—and what started as a necessity grew into a fulfilling and lasting career.
Today, Geraldine’s days are busy and filled with variety. Her work involves reviewing reports, managing paperwork, and assisting other departments by providing what they need from QA. Ensuring that quality rice leaves the facility is her top priority. “My family loves rice and enjoys eating it, so I make sure our rice is the best it can be for them,” she shares. In fact, she proudly checks local grocery store shelves to ensure Riceland rice is well represented.
Geraldine is quick to acknowledge the farmers who make her work possible. “Without the farmers, I wouldn’t have a job,” she says, expressing her gratitude for their hard work. Riceland runs deep in her family as well, with several relatives working in other departments. “We depend on Riceland,” she explains.
For Geraldine, growing good means striving to improve every day—solving problems, supporting her team, and encouraging others to speak up when issues arise. She believes that even small gestures can make a big difference in someone’s day. “One word may help them,” she says, reflecting on her role in keeping her colleagues motivated through challenges.
Being nominated for a Grow Good Award is a career highlight for Geraldine. She was especially touched by the words of one nominator who said, “They’d never met someone that is so encouraging.” “That makes my heart feel good,” she says. Learning of her nomination left her ecstatic and emotional: “I wanted to cry when I found out. It feels good knowing there are people thinking about me and recognizing good things.”
To Geraldine, the award is a source of pride and gratitude—especially because it came from the people she works alongside every day. “This award means a lot. It makes me proud to be recognized,” she says, adding a heartfelt thank you to her nominators.
Over the years, Geraldine has witnessed many changes at Riceland, but the biggest change she notes is the people. “It’s hard to find good help, and I try to encourage others by making their bad days into good days,” she says. Her positivity, leadership, and commitment make her an invaluable part of the Stuttgart Rice Division.
We are proud to celebrate Geraldine Johnson for her dedication, encouragement, and the impact she continues to make at Riceland.
